What Do You Think Of What The Bible Says On Singleness?

I’m curious to know what you sisters think of these verses, particularly verse 40.

“39 A wife is bound by law as long as her husband lives; but if her husband dies, she is at liberty to be married to whom she wishes, only in the Lord. 40 *But she is happier if she remains as she is [single], according to my judgment—and I think I also have the Spirit of God.* (‭I Corinthians‬ ‭7‬:‭39-40‬ NKJV)

Please leave your thoughts in a comment.

Much love to you,

Natasha

I believe whatever the Lord’s will in a woman’s life is good. If she is widowed and God wants her to marry again, then it’s good because the marriage will glorify Him. If He calls her to be single, however, then that’s also good. Whatever God’s good, pleasing, and perfect will is good. Whatever the circumstance, God takes care of His children.

It’s better to stay single, unless you can’t control your own lustful thoughts, in which case you should marry someone with whom you’re “equally yolked,” who is a follower of Christ.

Paul is speaking from his own experience. Believe it or not, we should read Paul’s teaching as guidance but not the word of God. I believe most- not all- of his scripture was inspired by prophetic revelation, and he uses his own wisdom for the benefit of the early church. Some of that can be applied today, but I honestly don’t think it’s wrong to have female pastors as long as they are married. He had his own problems, and I can’t judge him. But if you read it; he’s not telling you to remain single, he’s recommending it on his own terms. If the church followed that to the letter no one would get married. That’s what I feel about it
