Becoming A Proverbs 31 Woman Day 9

She extends her hands to the spinning staff, and her hands hold the spindle.-Proverbs 31:19

*I’m going to skip over this one since we already established the Proverbs 31 Woman sows. So let’s take a look at the next verse:

Her hands reach out to the poor, and she extends her hands to the needy. (Proverbs 31:20 HCSB)

Are you generous? Do you care about the poor? When you see them, do you ever extend your hand and bless them? If you see someone is distraught, do you reach out in love?

The Proverbs 31 Woman does not ignore those in need. When able, (which seems more often than not given her profitable clothing business), she gives to the poor and helps those who are needy.

Now this care for the lowly isn’t just an expectation of the Proverbs 31 Woman, but of all God’s children. He cares so deeply for the poor and needy, when He left heaven and lived among us He Himself was poor. He had no home, there were times he was hungry and tired. Jesus lived off of the loving support of women who provided for Him from their resources.

I find it very interesting that the bible makes note of this fact, and specifies it was a group of women. It even names them:

Soon afterward He was traveling from one town and village to another, preaching and telling the good news of the kingdom of God. The Twelve were with Him, and also some women who had been healed of evil spirits and sicknesses: Mary, called Magdalene (seven demons had come out of her); Joanna the wife of Chuza, Herod’s steward; Susanna; and many others who were supporting them from their possessions. (‭Luke‬ ‭8‬:‭1-3‬)

And remember what Jesus said,

For I was hungry and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you took care of Me; I was in prison and you visited Me.’ “Then the righteous will answer Him, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You something to drink? When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or without clothes and clothe You? When did we see You sick, or in prison, and visit You? ’ “And the King will answer them, ‘I assure you: Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of Mine, you did for Me.’ (‭Matthew‬ ‭25‬:‭35-40‬)

May we follow our Lord’s commands and extend our hands to the poor and needy. A true Proverbs 31 Woman will care for the needs of others as she is able.

Proverbs 31 Woman Prayer

Lord, in Jesus’ name help me care for the poor and needy. Help me to extend my hand to them, and to be generous to them. Fill me with compassion and mercy, make me more like You. Amen.
